Biography

The Hap'ning Place in Crouch End and Mayfair is a center for excellence and achievment in singing, piano, guitar, violin, and flute. 

Our students, guided by our talented and enthusiastic teachers learn with modern methods and we aim to encourage a solid technique while keeping the lessons enjoyable. 

We offer lessons in all styles of music from classical to contemporary and jazz to musicals. Preparation for the various music examination boards (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music -ABRSM, Trinity, London College of Music, Rockskool, etc) is available and we have a 100% success rate.

Qualifications

Maryliese Happel B.A. Voice, M.A. Music History  and Voice, Mu Phi, NATS, ISM is the director of The Hap’ning Place and teaches private voice. She sings professionally in Europe and America and has been teaching voice for several years in London, Vienna and the USA.

Emma Arizza graduated from Como G. Verdi Conservatory with Honors. Emma is currently studying at the Royal College of Music and is a holder of the Henry Wood Trust Award. Emma has taught for several years and has won several national and international competitions. Recently,Emma won one of the most prestigious Italian prizes, the Rassegna Castrocaro Classica. At this competition she was also awarded the audience prize.

Tanya Barringer B.Mus Violin Performance, Summa Cum Laude with University Honors and Honors in Major University of Houston, M.A. New York University has been teaching violin for over 10 years and performs currently as first chair with Bishops Stortford Sinfiona, Fulham Opera Orchestra and co-leader of the London Royal Orchestra Society as well as member of Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra and One Tree Hill Sinfonia.

Leyla Cemiloglu studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and is currently at the Guildhall School for Music and Drama. Leyla performs frequently as both a soloist and a chamber musician, having played in venues as far and near as the Wigmore Hall in London, the Music Room at Champs Hill, the Wimbledon Festival, St. James’ Church Piccadilly, the Menuhin Hall in Surrey, the Royal Over-Seas League in Edinburgh, Neve Shalom Synagogue in Istanbul, Leyla Gencer Concert Hall in Istanbul, Bellapais Music Festival in Northern Cyprus, and Cunda Cultural Centre as part of the Ayvalik International Music Academy in Turkey.

Simon Drey BA, has taught classical and contemporary guitar for many years both privately and in schools throughout London. Simon performs most weeks with his bands and also enjoys teaching. He has had great success with his students in graded examinations and many of his students have gone on to play professionally.

Jacob Elliott is an experienced guitarist and tutor based in North London. He holds a classical music degree in guitar from Goldsmiths College London, and is comfortable in a wide variety of styles, be it Jazz, Rock, Classical, Blues or Folk. Jacob performs with his own band as well as working as a session musician.

Janet FischerPgDip Distinction in Performance and Professional Studies RNCM, MMus with Distinction in Performance, RNCM from the University of Manchester,BMus (Hons)/Grad RNCM from the University of Manchester. Janet teaches violin (or fiddle as she says), piano and voice. Her extensive performance experience has taken her to innumerable countries and cities. Janet is currently performing in Phantom in the West End

Aimée Fisk was the recipient of the Joseph Weingarten scholarship at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest after graduating from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with a first class honours. Aimée took part in masterclasses with the notable Andrea Rost, Georgian conductor George Tchitchinadze and performed as soloist for the French Embassy and at the Municipal Palace of Arts. Aimée is the grateful recipient of the Jennifer Vyvyan Award, and is generously sponsored by the Josephine Baker Trust and The Bramhope Trust. Aimée performs regularly with various jazz ensembles throughout the UK and abroad, singing at venues including Budapest Jazz Club and the “Rush Hour Jazz” programme at Symphony Hall in Birmingham

Ian Fleming BA (Hons) Music, BTEC National Diploma in Music (Triple Distinction) is an experienced performer and teacher. Ian has also writes music for, and performs in, various theatrical shows, touring Britain and Europe. A talented composer, Ian's music is performed by the Royal Northern Sinfonia, as well as featuring in films

Sedef Gencoguz BA Maastricht Conservatory, Cologne, Germany Academy for Many Istanbul Turkey Conservatory State Opera and Stage Performance performs contemporary and jazz music and has been teaching here in London for several years.

George Goudis BMus in piano from Athens conservatory and his MA in songwriting from The London Institute of Contemporary Music Performance George performs and records internationally and been a teacher for more than 10 years, He taught piano at the Athens Atheneum as well as here in London.
