Discover Vicky Steiri's teaching style and pedagogy:
Vicky Steiri (BMus, MMus) is an active performer of cello and piano, educator, composer and collaborative artist. She holds many teaching positions in schools (Hackney Music Service, St. Cyprian’s Primary Academy) and has received advanced teacher training both as part of her studies and also through the ABRSM and Music Education Expo conferences as well as the Hackney Learning Trust. She has also worked extensively in private tuition since 2005. Her approach with each student is highly personalised. Drawing on her MMus studies in musicology and composition, many of her students have enjoyed a contextualised approach to music that sees it more as music rather than instrument learning. She has a proven track record of successfully preparing students for ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall exams.
Vicky specialises in classical, experimental, new contemporary and improvised music. She has worked extensively as a performer in symphony and chamber orchestras, new music ensembles, quartets, experimental/improvisation bands and session work throughout the UK, Europe and the US. Recent work includes performing opera in Southern France, a collaboration with Turner Prize nominee Spartacus Chetwynd, composition commissions for films and performances (Jack Smith’s film ‘Normal Love’ at the ICA) and appearing in the orchestra for the recent BBC TV series of Maestro.
I hold two MMus degrees in Composition and Contemporary Music Studies from Goldsmiths College, University of London, Cello and Piano Diplomas (MMus equivalents) from the Attikon Conservatoire, Athens, and a BMus degree in Musicology from the University of Athens, Greece.
