I stumbled upon the guitar and banjo purely by accident. I was bought a banjo at the age of 8 after seeing it played at a concert and falling in love with it. I have not put it down since and have gigged and performed across the country with it. After hearing 'Eruption' performed by Eddie Van Halen on the guitar I decided I wanted to play it!
This led to me studying guitar performance at university for 3 years. Upon graduating I answered an advert for a lead guitarist in a Van Halen tribute band with which I toured the UK for 3 years playing prestigous UK venues. In 2007 we performed a gig with Spinal Tap and David Lee Roth drummer Gregg Bissonette which I would put down as a highlight of my playing career!!!
Thanks to my gigs with the tribute band I became a national guitar fx demonstrator for Roland (Boss). For 18 months I was travelled around the UK and parts of Europe to demonstrate the latest gear for guitarists and bassists. You may come across some of my demos on Youtube!
I left Roland in 2008 when I returned to the Institute of Contemporary Music, where I had acquired my degree, to become a teacher. For the next 2 years I taught various levels of student in a range of styles and abilities; including the history and theory of music.
Since 2002 I have taught privately from my home studio. I have always found it more productive to teach one-to-one as I can spend time with individuals to develop their unique style.
