Jason Tierney's Biography:
Jason grew up in North Devon and began playing the piano at the age of four. His talent was quickly recognised and spawned a great deal of local interest. The renowned pianist Susan Steele expressed a desire to mentor and teach him. As a result of these events, the Dartington (North Devon) Trust Young Musicians' Support organisation was created with the original intention of funding Jason's lessons with Ms. Steele. YMS has now developed into a major organisation providing support, guidance and funds for promising young musicians in North Devon and has met with great success.
Jason went on to study at Wells Cathedral School, one of four specialist music schools in the UK, under the international pianist, John Byrne. During his two years at Wells, Jason won several local and national competitions and gave numerous recitals, including a performance for Prince Charles. At the end of his time at Wells, Jason won a place to study at the Royal College of Music in London, with the renowned international pianist, Ruth Gerald. At the end of his first year at RCM, Jason won the prestigious exhibition scholarship. During his remaining time at RCM, Jason gave numerous performances and was repeatedly commended for his interpretations of the works of Debussy and Chopin.
In 1999 Jason returned to North Devon for his solo debut performance at the Queens Theatre to raise money for the Young Musicians Support. He now resides in Richmond where he continues to teach and perform.
